The crumbling walls of the fortress and the deserted church of Aghia Eleousa betray the significant history of the place.
Leave your vehicle at the entrance of the village and walk to the central square with the tall cypress trees and the lake with the marble frogs. There you will find the Catholic church of the Virgin Mary with the carved hearts on its bell tower and a few metres away the Orthodox marble-made church Aghia Triada.
Do not forget to visit the Art School of Marble Sculpture, which since 1956 operates as a generator of art and civilization, as well as to go for a walk few kilometres away to the picturesque harbour Panormos from where the boats departed loaded with marble and baskets from Volax.
There you will find houses built on giant rocks, knitters of handmade woven baskets, a folklore museum of traditional arts & handicrafts, marble shaped tablets, and a small stone theatre in the entrance of the village which during the summer hosts great theatrical shows.
